Hearing that cut Narcissus (daffodils) make other cut flowers wilt prematurely, I put six snapdragon stems in a vase of fresh water, and six in a vase with an equal number of paperwhite narcissus.

After six days, here's how things looked (those combined with narcissus are on the left).

If you've had experience pairing cut narcissus with other kinds of flowers, please leave a comment below. If there's enough response, we'll sum it up in a future blog.

I've heard this too. Is the poisonous compound the same gooey stuff that makes the water turn cloudy?

Right, the daffs do cloud the water, and I'm sure that's tied up with wilting of other flowers that share the water. I enjoyed checking out your blog, by the way Jess.

According to a recent Martha Stewart article on the same, if you soak the cut stems in water, replacing it until it stays clear, this will help keep the other flowers from perishing so quickly.
