My daughter-in-law Melissa (that's her harvesting 'Seascape' strawberries below) was surprised that I complain about space limitations in my garden: I have a big lot, but only a fraction of it gets enough sun to support the fruits and veggies that I love. My solution? Raised beds: They produce more food in less space than almost any other kind of garden.

_mg_5945_2 But what if you don't have space for even raised beds? How do you grow food on a pocket patio, deck, rooftop, or houseboat?

We’d love to see your solutions, especially if you’re a new gardener. Do you use big pots? Planter boxes? Hanging baskets? Email us a picture of what you’re growing, and don’t be shy—include a shot of yourself too.

If you live in California or the Southwest, send the email to Sharon at cohoons@sunset.com. If you live in the Pacific Northwest or mountain states, send it to Jim at mccauslandj@sunset.com. And if you live in Hawaii, send it to Kathy Brenzel at brenzelk@sunset.com.

We can’t wait to see your successes!
