By Jim McCausland, Sunset senior garden writer
Designed by Bob Lilly, Carrie Becker, Charles Price, and Glenn Withey in 1991, the Northwest Perennial Alliance perennial border at Bellevue Botanical Garden has earned international acclaim, and is one of Washington State’s horticultural treasures. In preparation for complete renovation, many of the border’s perennials will be dug and divided Sunday, July 13, from 11 to 4.
You can help, even if you aren’t an NPA member. Just show up, and you’ll soon find yourself knuckle-deep in the border's soil. During lunch, which is provided for volunteers, there will
be a presentation on the renovation plans for the border, including preliminary
drawings. When the day is done, you’ll get to take home some of what you’ve divided.
Bellevue Botanical Garden is at 12001 Main Street, Bellevue, WA. For details, call 425 647-6004 or check the NPA web site.
The happy workers at left are NPA Border Supervisor George Lasch and member Jan Drummond.
