Last spring as I was making the rounds of garden tours, I came upon a few examples of mosaic art by Ann Murphy, a Portland artist who happens to make a living on staff with the Oregon Association of Nurseries.

Below, for example, is the top of a small tea table she made.

Murphy says that "nature is the inspiration and I often incorporate semi-precious stones and beads into the projects." Prices for tables, globes, and obelisks run from $325 to $500. You can reach Murphy by emailing ann@moonpath.us.

I'm so glad you're showing Ann's wonderful mosaic art. She is incredibly talented. I was so fortunate to have these pieces on loan to grace my garden for a garden tour this past June. They attracted a lot of attention, not just for their own beauty but for what they added to my garden.

Ann's mosaics are fabulous! I am the lucky owner of one of her intricate obelisks. I look at it every single day outside my kitchen window. Now that I'm in LA, I gaze upon Ann's fine craftsmanship and think about how much I miss the plant palette of Northwest. She draws from a love of horticulture and botany -- in a million little pieces of glass, tile, mirrors, semiprecious stones and beads! Ann's color sense is magnificent, too - she pairs moody blues, greens, turquoises and coppers and wow, do these bits and pieces look gorgeous together!
