In yesterday’s post, Sharon showed a screen which, on closer inspection, ends up being a wonderful collection of small, containerized ornamental plants.

The screen pictured at left and below also is not quite what it seems.  As you approach it through designer Linda Lee's perennial woodland garden (which is itself an eyeful) you think you're coming up on a gate, with its built-in power to invite and conceal, all at the same time.

But when you get there, you discover that this beautiful structure is functionally a screen that blocks the view of the side of her neighbor's house. It's a gate in spirit only.

The screen was built by Bamboo Craftsman of Portland, Oregon.

Linda Lee is a partner in Lee and Main Garden Design in Lake Oswego, Oregon.
