20081128_3423_2 Decorating a holiday present with a Tillandsia, an epiphytic plant in the Bromeliad family, instead of the standard bow makes any gift seem more special.  Even a simple stocking stuffer--like the aforementioned Box Tidy.  It's like receiving a second gift.

Tillandsia is a sturdy, undemanding houseplant, happiest in an area with high humidity, such as a kitchen or bathroom counter.  It can just sit there without soil.  Just mist once in awhile.  Best with distilled water so you don't spot the leaves.

Idea and package were found at Chicweed, a succulent plant and decor shop in Solana Beach, California.

Susan, the first comment--like the first blog post-is the hardest. Glad you're enjoying our blog. Hope to hear from you again.

The designers at Chicweed--Susan and Melissa Teisl and Leah Winetz--have a delightful aesthetic, and one that I'm pleased to show more of in "Succulent Container Gardens" (Timber Press, 2010). --Debra Lee Baldwin, author, "Designing with Succulents"
