A gorgeous wisteria vine is in full bloom in our parking lot, of all places.

The view grabs my attention every time I pass by. I can't decide what is more striking: the picturesque plant or its contrast with asphalt and heavy metal.

An oldie but goodie, don't overlook wisteria for your garden. Some varieties are incredibly drought tolerant, and the bees love it like none other.

Here is more information about wisteria on the new Sunset Plant Finder.

And here are links to more of Sunset's recommendations for unthirsty flowers.

This Chinese wisteria is just STUNNING! We have two neighbors who grow this variety and we find ourselves walking the dogs "much more often" past their house, just so that we can admire the explosion before they dwindle away.
We grow a Japanese wisteria, not as powerful with the abundance of blooms, but equally delicate and gorgeous.
Thanks for sharing this! It's the most beautiful parking lot we've ever seen!

My Wisteria "Cooke's Special" had me at hello the day I planted it in bloom on a screen by my back door in Seattle. Wisteria is easy to grow and maintain if you keep the vine within arms reach for pruning and create just a few leads that have a defined end. The trunk will then bulk out and you can prune short branches to create flowering spurs.
