Was I more conscientious about using all the produce I got from Morning Song Farm (see the above post) because I now knew the farmer who grew it?  No question about it.

The farmer is Donna Buono, and her farm is in Rainbow, California.  After learning Buono was a single mother, I decided I had to meet her there.  Farming is such hard work I couldn't imagine how she managed it alone.

After following Buono around Morning Song Farm awhile, there's no question this gal works very hard.  She puts in long hours--she manages the farm and harvest and distributes all the food with only one helper.  But don't feel sorry for Buono.  She wouldn't have it any other way.

"I've wanted to be a farmer since I was twelve," she says.  "I wake up happy every morning.  I love this way of life."

What a cool, interesting, and nice lady. Last year I joined a CSA and went to the open house so that I could meet my farmer. Well it turned out my farmer is a total jerk! He spent most of the night upbraiding us for being so corporate. Keep in mind that just because you know your farmer doesn't mean you are going to like him or her. I am glad your'se is so amiable.
