By Sharon Cohoon and Jim McCausland, Sunset Magazine

The two of us have been sharing our garden discoveries, observations, enthusiasms, and occasional peeves with you, our dear readers, via Fresh Dirt now for nearly four years. Johanna and Julie, too, on occasion. And we want you to know we appreciate your taking the time to check in and leave your comments.  Writing for you has been a delight. Since we can't thank you in person we want to extend our appreciation through this virtual bouquet.

If this sound like a goodbye, it is. This is the last post from Fresh Dirt. But something even better will take its place. Instead of having to click on several blogs to see what Sunset is up to re travel, food, home, and garden discoveries, you'll only have to come to one place, Westphoria, our multi-department blog celebrating all things Western. Fresh Dirt's pages will remain active for a couple of more months, after which the site will be taken down.

Westphoria will go live in early 2012. Please check sunset.com in the new year to find us!

Thanks for the note. We've both moved on to other things, so it's unlikely that we'll be posting on Westphoria. But thanks for the vote of confidence! --Jim

Well heck, that's too bad, I really enjoyed Fresh Dirt and will miss both of your voices.

We'll certainly miss both of you! Fresh Dirt has been an ideal mix of education and fun.

I'm so sorry and will miss your posts. I hope Westphoria has its fair share of gardening posts.

So sorry to read that Fresh Dirt is going away. I have enjoyed your blog immensely. Good luck in your new endeavors!

Very sorry to hear that Fresh Dirt is going away. It's been on my daily list of things to check out for several years. You will be missed.

Oh no! I'll miss your blog -- I stop by a couple of times a week and always learn something new.

Fresh Dirt has been my favorite, and only, gardening blog.

I hope Sunset does Westphoria right. Even the NYTimes design blog has sub-blogs so we can find what we're interested in more quickly. Likewise, the LA Times design blog.

While I'm sad to see this blog go, at the end of the day change is GOOD! I'm looking forward to seeing the new Westphoria. Congratulations!

Thanks for all your efforts and best wishes into the future.

I too have enjoyed Fresh Dirt. I do not have enough time to read about travel and home design, so have enjoyed the emphasis on gardening that your blog has. I realize that the One-Block Diet has probably run its course, but still wish Sunset would keep your blog and perhaps add one on seasonal cooking from the home garden.
Best wishes to you both in your new endeavors.

I'll miss Fresh Dirt! Hope the new things you're moving on to include lots of garden stuff. We need more info from reliable sources like you. Good luck!

Bummer. I really enjoyed Fresh Dirt. Good luck with your future endeavors and Happy Holidays!

What a sad, sad shocker! I'm really sorry to see you gone! Thank you for these past years of vicarious gardening delights. I wish you both well!

Please leave a bread crumb trail to follow you wherever it is you move on to...

I am very sad to hear this! Not only have I really enjoyed and been educated by your posts, but I love the emphasis on gardening-only. I am a longtime Sunset magazine subscriber (since 1971, believe it or not) and I get as much home decor/design and cooking as I want in the print magazine. What I have loved and treasured about this blog is the continual flow of cool ideas, inspiring photos and new information about gardening that it has provided. I hope the new blog includes a big dose of that; I'm really not interested in the other Sunset blogs (though I have enjoyed the One Block Feast blog -- is it also being sucked into the new general blog?)

thank you both so much for all the inspiration and information on all things green and growing. it was always a delight see what you had to share with each post. best of luck with your new endeavor! we hope it is just a different outlet for your unique talents and voices!

Oh no! I have really enjoyed your blog, at times as a source of fresh ideas, and other times strictly for entertainment. I'm sure the new blog will be good, but I will miss both of your voices. I appreciate the lure of moving on to new adventures, however, and wish you success and happiness with whatever fresh ventures you tackle, whether personal or professional.

I'll be sad to see this blog disappear. I've certainly learned a lot from your posts. Good luck with your next adventures! :)

Sharon, I can only hope that you have a blast doing your new things but will miss the "dirt" of course. Thanks for everything.
